It’s been a long time since we had a new Warren Beatty movie, but the actor and director has returned with Rules Don’t Apply, the long-developing passion project in which he plays the iconic Howard Hughes. The first trailer has finally arrived for the upcoming film, which co-stars the impossibly charming Alden Ehrenreich (your new Han Solo) in what surprisingly looks like a delightful little rom-com.

Leonardo DiCaprio delivered the most famous portrayal of Howard Hughes in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, but Beatty gives us a slightly different take on the famously controlling visionary — one that’s a bit lighter and more endearing, to be sure. Rules Don’t Apply isn’t a Hughes biopic, but instead features the real-life director, pilot and entrepreneur as a supporting player in a romance between Ehrenreich’s young driver and a studio actress, played by Lily Collins.

The film also has a pretty great supporting lineup, including Matthew Broderick, Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, Steve Coogan, Oliver Platt, Taissa Farmiga, Candice Bergen, Dabney Coleman, Ed Harris and Martin Sheen.

Here’s the official synopsis:

An aspiring young actress (Lily Collins) and her ambitious young driver (Alden Ehrenreich) struggle hopefully with the absurd eccentricities of the wildly unpredictable billionaire (Warren Beatty), who they work for.

It’s Hollywood, 1958. Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist virgin Marla Mabrey (Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her driver Frank Forbes (Ehrenreich), who is engaged to be married to his 7th grade sweetheart and is a deeply religious Methodist. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have any relationship whatsoever with a contract actress. Hughes’ behavior intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.

Rules Don’t Apply hits theaters on November 23.
