Previously we heard that tickets for Star Wars: The Force Awakens IMAX screenings would possibly go on sale sometime in September or October. As for regular showings of the film, we haven’t heard anything about pre-sales, and that information would be helpful for certain fans who would prefer not to line up in advance. A new rumor suggests that general tickets may be available for pre-sale as soon as October.

The rumor originates at the FullOfSith Facebook page (via Star Wars Universe). It’s a fan page, obviously, but a lot of the viable rumors have landed on pages such as this one before spreading elsewhere:

our wallet’s gotten a workout since Force Friday, but you’re probably wondering “When do I get to spend money on the the good stuff? **When can I buy tickets to The Force Awakens?**” OCTOBER 19th. That’s when. At least if you’ve got a Century or Cinemark theater nearby. Although it’s likely a safe bet your Regals and your AMCs will have their box-offices waiting to recieve your moneys around the same time. Speaking of bets (safe or otherwise) odds seem decent there *might* be a trailer right around that date to help push people towards that open and waiting box-office on the 19th. Maybe that day. Maybe the prior weekend. Maybe a week previous. Who knows. Anyway: OCTOBER 19th. Tickets for The Force Awakens go on sale. There you go.

While we should take it with a grain of salt, the tip might have come from someone in the theater industry, and it wouldn’t be the first time that a tip like this one panned out.

October seems a bit early for pre-sale tickets, though — November seems more likely, but The Force Awakens is a huge event film, so it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for tickets to go on sale that early given all the hype around the release.

For some context, Slashfilm points out that tickets for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace went on sale a week before release. A month in advance is more likely than October, with select showings available for online purchase and more showtimes available as we get closer to the December 18 release date.
