Ryan Gosling is Taking a Break From Acting, Everything is RuinedBritt Hayes |
Our dear Ryan Gosling has decided to take a break from acting to focus on just, like, being Ryan for a while, you guys.
In an interview with the Associated Press (so you know it's for really reals), Ryan Gosling explains that he's taking a break from acting because we're at peak Baby Goose saturation levels:
I've been doing it too much. I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.
Ryan Gosling is getting mad existential on us right now, and we can respect that, but also, we will miss him dearly. He goes on to explain that he needs to figure out the balance between giving himself to a role entirely and being able to step away from it, and he wonders how much creative freedom for an actor is too much:
I don't know what I'm doing. I haven't quite figured out what the balance is between being able to be lost in it — or try to, anyway — and then step outside of it. The more opportunities I'm given, the more I learn about how easy it is to f--- it up. You fight for freedom and then you get it, and then you have enough rope to hang yourself. It's like trying to exercise some restraint because I do have so much freedom.
You take all the time you need, boo. We'll be right here waiting for you to valiantly return to us. In the meantime, Gosling is currently shooting his directorial debut, 'How to Catch a Monster,' starring Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Matt Smith, and Ben Mendelsohn.
And maybe he can take this time off to find another adorable choir of children to make second album with his band, Dead Man's Bones. Or not. Wishful thinking.
