WGN America’s Salem may have broken the barrier for original dramas at the network (now flourishing with Underground and Outsiders), but the witch trials had to end eventually. So it is, that the occult Salem will officially brew its last with Season 3, ending the series altogether.

Per Deadline, the current third season will officially wrap up the series in early 2017, albeit in a manner creators Brannon Braga and Adam Simon had anticipated, and steered the story toward. Says the pair:

We knew this would be the third and final season and were able to craft an exciting climax to Mary’s transformational saga. […]

We are grateful to WGN America and Fox 21 for being terrific partners and giving us free reign to create a satisfying conclusion—one we believe respects our love of storytelling and the show’s passionate fans. It was a magical experience to create Salem and we want to thank every producer, writer, director, actor and crew member, for all they have done to help us bring the world of Salem to life.

Its third season featuring Marilyn Manson himself in a guest role, Salem featured among its cast Black Mirror star Janet Montgomery, Nikita alum Shane West, Arrow villain and Fringe favorite Seth Gabel, along with Ashley Madekwe, Tamzin Merchant, Elise Eberle, Iddo Goldberg, Joe Doyle, and Oliver Bell.

In the meantime, new episodes are still airing on WGN America through 2017.
