The picture above from 'Scary Movie 4' should tell you everything you need to know about the 'Scary Movie' franchise at this point. By the end there weren't enough horror movies to parody, so they started taking on any major movies (including 'Brokeback Mountain'), and were basically doing what Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer did with their spin-off parodies (which started with 'Date Movie' and'Epic Movie'). The franchise and parody films in general wore out their welcome, so perhaps it'll be a breath of fresh air when 'Scary Movie 5' hits theaters January 11, 2013.

They've also got Malcolm Lee on to direct, according to EW, with filming to commence this summer. And the good news is that they've had six years of horror movies to draw from, which basically means there's going to be at least twenty minutes of found footage jokes. One wonders if 'The Cabin in the Woods' deserves to parodied, and if so, how.

It's hard to say if Anna Faris - the sole connective tissue of the franchise - is coming back. She is rumored to return, but she's been moving on to bigger and better things, and I'm sure she's got little interest in returning to this well unless she gets paid extremely well, or is contractually obligated.
