Make a mental checklist of things you’d expect to see in a red band trailer for a movie titled Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. Got it? Okay. Now watch the trailer above and realize that this movie, for better or worse, has it all. We can reserve actual judgment for when the movie actually opens in theaters, but based on this preview, no one can accuse this movie of not going for a “kitchen sink” approach to this concept.

As the title implies, the film finds a town overrun by zombies, forcing a trio of teenage boy scouts to rise the occasion declare war on the undead. This very NSFW trailer revels in the movie’s R-rating: it has exploding heads, zombie boobs, crass comedy and even Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son. The movie certainly looks overstuffed. There are shades of early Peter Jackson and Sam Raimi, but there’s also a bizarre Amblin vibe on display that is frequently undercut by the lowbrow jokes.

The film marks an interesting deviation for co-writer/director Christopher Landon, who has spent the past six years toiling away as a writer for the Paranormal Activity series. He made his debut with last year’s Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, which was a serious jolt of life for a horror franchise that was seemingly on death’s door. So he has horror chops ... but does he have splatter comedy chops?

Here’s the synopsis for the film:

Three scouts and lifelong friends join forces with one badass cocktail waitress to become the world’s most unlikely team of heroes. When their peaceful town is ravaged by a zombie invasion, they’ll fight for the badge of a lifetime and put their scouting skills to the test to save mankind from the undead.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse opens on October 30, 2015. You know, just in case you don’t already have Halloween plans.
