The timing of the new 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' trailer is impeccable. Ben Stiller's latest effort as a director premiered to mixed-but-passionate reviews at the New York Film Festival this past weekend and this new look at the film feels prepared to ride that buzz all the way to film's December release (and the 2014 Oscars?).

Based on the short story by James Thurber, 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' looks like big left turn for Stiller, a talented comic actor and filmmaker who has been flirting with irrelevance recently. This looks so much different bigger and ambitious than anything he has done before. The comedy appears smaller and more melancholy than what we're used to from a Stiller film and the whole production just looks gorgeous, using the main character's extensive imagination to create massive fantasy sequences. You had our curiosity, Mr. Stiller. Now you have our attention.

Since the original story is about as un-cinematic as them come, Stiller and his team seem to have taken some pretty major liberties with the material. Now, 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' is...

...[the] story of a day-dreamer who escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. When his job, along with that of his co-worker are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world, embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined.

'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' stars Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Sean Penn and a bunch of other people you like. It's set to open in December 25, 2013, where it will battle for your holiday time and money.
