Would you pay to see something in the theater if it had already aired multiple times on television for free? Most of the time you'd say no, right? But, what if it's the pop culture joke of the summer? Of course, we're referring 'Sharknado' - the so-bad-its-good phenomenon that has taken the country by storm. Yes, you can soon see it on the big screen, you lucky dog you!

You have to hand it to 'Sharknado' - what, at first, seemed like a one-and-done goof aided by Twitter and a billion corny jokes, has held on to its fifteen-minutes with impressive strength, perhaps due to the Syfy channel's decision to air it again a week after its initial premiere. So, 'Sharknado' is sticking around for a little while longer.

Since people are still evidently laughing at this thing (??), Regal Cinemas has seen fit to host midnight shows of the movie on August 2 at roughly 200 theaters across the country including New York City's Regal Union Square Stadium 14 and L.A.'s Regal L.A. Live Stadium 14. The idea is to create an audience-friendly cult classic in the tradition of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' or the hilariously bad 'The Room.'

Will people arrive dressed as Ian Ziering's character, toting a chainsaw? Will people arrive at all? Remains to be seen, but this will be the real test of 'Sharknado's' staying power. And, if audiences do indeed flock to these midnight screenings, well, you can't say we haven't given this whole "civilized society" thing a pretty good run.
