We've waited nearly two years for 'Sherlock' season 3, delivering all the more devastation when its final episode brings the series to a close once more in February 2014. Fans patiently wonder if season 3 will manage to outdo the villainy of James Moriarty, but wonder no more! We've learned who Sherlock Holmes will be matching finale wits with for "His Last Vow," none other than Charles Augustus Magnussen!

Though we'd earlier known the character to be portrayed by Danish actor Lars Mikkelsen (brother to ‘Hannibal”s Mads Mikkelsen), it remained unclear before now when Sherlock would come to tangle with Magnussen, who corresponds to the 1904 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle story, “The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton.” The BBC has released a new synopsis for season 3 finale "His Last Vow," lighting our way toward the next excruciating cliffhanger for season 4:

In the final episode of this new series, written by Steven Moffat, a case of stolen letters leads Sherlock Holmes into a long conflict with Charles Augustus Magnussen, the Napoleon of blackmail, and the one man he truly hates.

But how do you tackle a foe who knows the personal weakness of every person of importance in the Western world?

Benedict Cumberbatch returns as Sherlock Holmes, with Martin Freeman as John Watson, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft, Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade, Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson, Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper and Lars Mikkelsen as Charles Augustus Magnussen.

In addition to the footage screened and details gleaned at Comic-Con, we've seen plenty from January premiere "The Empty Hearse," especially in the most recent interactive trailer. Follow-up episode “The Sign of Three” will feature an oft-discussed wedding, while “The Last Vow” will air on February 2. The BBC has yet to commission an official ‘Sherlock’ season 4, though reportedly Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have both signed on for the follow-up, in spite of their increasingly busy schedules.

Check out the latest trailer again above, and tell us how you think 'Sherlock' will end the season with his deadly new foe in the comments!
