Between newly-elected Pope Jorge Mario Bergoglio and the near-complete 'Veronica Mars' movie Kickstarter campaign, you've likely heard enough about heavenly matters today, but what's one more? Showtime's upcoming Ridley Scott-produced drama 'The Vatican' has managed to capitalize on the trending topics once again, adding 'Trainspotting' star Ewen Bremmer to it's already impressive cast. Find out about the latest to join the fictional 'Vatican' inside!

If there were ever a good time to explore the inner workings of 'The Vatican,' today would be a good time to start. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the upcoming Kyle Chandler-starring pilot has added to its cast once again, this time electing Scottish actor and 'Trainspotting' star Ewen Bremmer as Monsignor Alberico Iemma, given the task of investigating and pronouncing miracles for the Church.

‘The Vatican’ follows Chandler as Cardinal Thomas Duffy, “the charismatic yet enigmatic Archbishop of New York, whose progressive leanings excite some and alarm others within the hierarchy of the Catholic Church.” Written by Oscar-winner Paul Attanasio and with a pilot helmed by Ridley Scott, ‘The Vatican’ is described as “a provocative contemporary genre thriller about spirituality, power and politics – set against the modern-day political machinations within the Catholic church. The series will explore the relationships and rivalries as well as the mysteries and miracles behind one of the world’s most hidden institutions.”

In addition to Bremmer,  Anna Friel, Matthew Goode (‘Watchmen’) and Sebastian Koch (‘A Good Day to Die Hard‘) round out the cast as the Cardinal's rebellious younger sister Kayla Duffy,  Papal Secretary Bernd Koch and Cardinal Marco Malerba, respectively.

Well, what say you? Are you interested in a fictional look at 'The Vatican' after today's historic events?
