The first season of NBC's buzz-worthy hit 'Smash' may have come and gone, leaving most rather miffed about the possibility of a second season, though with new show-runner Josh Safran ('Gossip Girl') in place, "Bombshell" might just be ripe for the shakeup we all need.  And what better way to shake things up by bringing in one one, but three new cast members?

TVLine made the announcement, that the critically-mixed 'Smash' will have at least three new presh faces joining season two, which despite beginning production in July will be held by the network until mid-season.  It remains unknown if any of the current cast will depart, be they Karen's now-spurned fiancee Dev (Raza Jaffrey), the fired Ellis (Jaime Cepero), or lead Ivy (Megan Hilty), who we last saw grasping a handful of pills as 'Bombshell" went up for opening night.

According to the report, 'Smash' is seeking an actress for Courtney, an African-American chorus girl described as "incredibly attractive and confident, but also open-minded and non-judgmental.”  Also being sought are actors for two young men from Brooklyn, the first identified as Danny, a straight, working class guy from Brooklyn, listed as a “sexy, charismatic and musically gifted, but also self-destructive and remote.” The casting call also specifies that applicants must have the skills to sing in a rock and/or soul voice. What do we think, a new love interest for Karen?

The third new series regular, Joe, reads as a Brooklyn native in his early to mid-20s and “gay, very cute, incredibly open and optimistic.”  Any guesses for casting?

As previously mentioned, Josh Safran will take over show-running duties from the departing Theresa Rebeck, who left the series for largely unspecified reasoning.  In any case, a bit of fresh air will be good for the sophomore series run.

What say you?  Who would you like to see take these roles when 'Smash' returns for season 2 in 2013?  Perhaps fellow 'American Idol' alum to complement Katharine McPhee?  Tell us what you hope to see from season 2 in the comments!
