Is Liza Minnelli embarking on a comeback tour?  Sure, plenty of theatre geeks would argue that she never left, but between recent returns to the 'Arrested Development' reunion and an upcoming guest spot on the second season of NBC's hit musical drama 'Smash,' we have to wonder.  The legendary singer and daughter of Hollywood icon Judy Garland will make an appearance in the new season, laying who else but herself, but what could Liza Minnelli bring to the characters of 'Smash?'

Adding even more star power to its ridiculous array of celebrity guests,' the second season of NBC's Broadway drama 'Smash' has cast Liza Minnelli to appear as herself in a spring episode of the series, which officially returns February 5.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, Minnelli will perform an original song from composers Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman with series star Christian Borle in episode "The Surprise Party."

"Liza Minnelli is the essence of a multi-talented, singular show business sensation, particularly for her extraordinary contributions to Broadway," NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said of the news. "So what could be more fitting than to have her legendary talent on a show that celebrates a world Liza has dazzled for decades?

Minnelli makes the latest addition to an already-packed guest roster for ‘Smash’ season 2, including 'Rent' stars Jesse L. Martin and Daphne Rubin-Vega, Bernadette Peters, ‘Hairspray’s Nikki Blonsky, Debra Messing’s former ‘Will & Grace’ star Sean Hayes, Krysta Rodriguez as Karen’s new roommate Ana,  Andy Mientus, ‘Newsies’ star Jeremy Jordan, and ‘American Idol’ vet Jennifer Hudson.  As previously reported, season 2 will also see the departure of show-runner and creator Theresa Rebeck, with former ‘Gossip Girl‘ EP Josh Safran stepping in.

What say you?  Has 'Smash' season 2 had enough already, before it begins?
