SNL’’s choice to follow up Kevin Hart’s 2015 premiere hosting with ‘The Voice’ coach and newbie Blake Shelton pulling double duty seemed a risky venture, but the Southern singer fits in just fine in his first promos with cast member Cecily Strong. Watch Shelton get his obligatory chair-spin (and call out that punk Adam Levine) in our first look at this weekend’s ‘SNL!’

Our first look at ‘SNL’'s second installment of 2015 (still no word on that 40th anniversary special) sees Blake Shelton assuming the roles of host, musical guest, and subsequently the entire cast when Cecily Strong decides on a vacation. Shelton of course parodies his ‘Voice’ coaching duties and Southern sensibilities, while the final promo spot for Saturday’s outing takes a heart-breaking twist.

Following Shelton’s dual duties as host and musical guest, next week’s January 31 episode will see ‘WhiplashOscar-nominee J.K. Simmons taking the stage for his first hosting gig (though admittedly not his first ‘SNL’ appearance), accompanied by musical guest D’Angelo. And while we don’t yet know how exactly ‘SNL’ will celebrate its 40th anniversary for three hours on February 8, they sure do like running vague commercials for it.

Preview Blake Shelton’s ‘SNL’ debut in the video above, call the paramedics, and give us your predictions for the January 24 episode in the comments! And hey, why not a bonus sketch from last week?
