Often under-appreciated (or left out entirely), SNL stars Kyle Mooney and Beck Bennett’s absurdly awkward ‘90s sitcom parodies have gotten better and better, and we can blame Ryan Gosling for the latest not making it to air. Both Family Matters and Saved By the Bell get their spot-on due in the latest cut-for-time SNL sketch, fresh from Saturday’s airing.

As with past efforts including Andrew Garfield and Chris Pratt, Bennett and Mooney deliver a pitch-perfect parody of sitcom awkwardness, complete with nonsensical transitions, understated drama and plenty of background weirdness. Of the three, only Chris Pratt’s “Bad Boys” ever made it to air, though apparently this time it was Gosling’s laughter in other sketches that put “Cool” on the chopping block.

And where Gosling kicked off the final three installments of 2015, this coming Saturday will see Chris Hemsworth returning to the stage alongside Chance the Rapper, before Tina Fey and Amy Poehler bring the house down on December 19 with Bruce Springsteen.

In the meantime, marvel at the awkward delight of SNL’s latest bizarre sitcom above, and blame that dastardly Gosling for the cut.
