Now that Bill Hader and Stefon have departed the show, we find ourselves treasuring every other recurring 'SNL' character and treating every appearance as if it's their last. That's just a long-winded way of saying "Welcome back, Drunk Uncle!" Bobby Moynihan's rambling, all-too honest (and all-too real) character once again graced the Weekend Update desk with his presence, updating us with his thoughts on current events and introducing us to a member of his extended family.
If it happened in the time since the last season of 'SNL' ended, there's a strong chance Drunk Uncle touches on it in the clip above. Most of his mileage comes from Miley Cyrus and twerking jokes (which Moynihan makes funny through sheer force of will), but there are plenty of sports and Ted Cruz references for everyone else. A few slurred renditions of "Blurred Lines" later, Drunk Uncle brings up what's on everyone's mind: the series finale of 'Breaking Bad.' Of course, that's just the cue for him to introduce us to "Meth Nephew," appropriately played by Aaron Paul. His name (and the actor playing him) should tell you everything you need to know about his character.
With Seth Meyers preparing to leave Weekend Update and 'SNL' for the late night talk show arena, there's something comforting about knowing Drunk Uncle will continue to be around. There will surely be some transitional jitters as Cecily Strong gets used to the new gig, but with reliable characters like Drunk Uncle to help her out, we think everything is going to be just fine.
