It's been hidden from the eyes of the public, but today Sony Pictures presents to us the first official trailer for the musical drama 'Sparkle' which includes lingerie-looking dresses, smooth music and, of course, Whitney Houston.

It's a bit sad that 'Sparkle' is getting more attention now that actress/singer Whitney Houston has passed away and this is her post-mortem movie, but given the looks of the trailer movie-goers will want to go to the theaters to watch much more than just her. One of those people happens to be American Idol winner Jordin Sparks who's making her feature film debut with 'Sparkle.' The young woman is talented and it would be interesting to see how audiences accept her when this movie comes out.

The cast for 'Sparkle' includes Jordin Sparks, Derek Luke, Mike Epps, Carmen Ejogo, Tika Sumpter, Omari Hardwick, Cee Lo Green and, of course, Whitney Houston.

The story centers on musical prodigy, Sparkle (Jordin Sparks) struggles to become a star while overcoming issues that are tearing her family apart. From an affluent Detroit area and daughter to a single mother (Whitney Houston), she tries to balance a new romance with music manager, Stix (Derek Luke) while dealing with the unexpected challenges her new life will bring as she and her two sisters (Carmen Ejogo and Tika Sumpter) strive to become a dynamic singing group during the Motown-era.

Go ahead and take a look at the late, great Whitney Houston in the first trailer below. 'Sparkle' will be out in theaters on August 17, 2012.
