Since 'Star Wars: Episode 7' was announced during Disney's recent purchase of Lucasfilm, fans have been chiming in as to who they want taking over the director's chair. Some movie directors, consequently, have been pronouncing publicly their own personal desires to helm the film. In fact, there's so much hubbub about who should follow in George Lucas' footsteps that we've had to keep a running power ranking as to who the front-runners are exactly.

But how close are we really to when the official announcement will be made in regards to the 'Star Wars: Episode 7' director?

Producer Frank Marshall, the husband of the new Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy (in other words, a source pretty close to the movie), hit the 'Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2' red carpet premiere the other night and was pressed by MTV for info on 'Star Wars: Episode 7' -- because who really cares about 'Twilight' when we have 'Star Wars'? When asked if he knew anything about the already highly anticipated film, he responded with, "I do, but I can't reveal it, or I won't be alive tomorrow."

While we all knew it wouldn't be that easy to squeeze some spoiler info out of this guy, he did say the possible 'Star Wars: Episode 7' director has been narrowed down to "a couple of candidates," though he couldn't say when exactly an official announcement would be made.

Pretty much everything we know about the film is based on rumor and speculation, including plot details. Though, if you want to keep tabs on who the directors who are getting the most heat in the world of 'Star Wars' fandom, check back with our 'Episode 7' ranking list.
