Yes, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been in theaters for a couple of weeks now, but there’s a couple of characters who were missing from the publicity materials, kept mostly secret until the film’s release. Lucasfilm has debuted some official photos of Maz Kanata and Supreme Leader Snoke, while Serkis shoots down any ideas about our familiarity with his new Star Wars baddie.

Lupita Nyong’o’s wizened Maz Kanata and Andy Serkis’ sinister Snoke were two of the more curious characters of The Force Awakens, both left out of the film’s marketing materials to sustain a bit of mystery. Now that the movie has been out for a while, Lucasfilm has finally released some official stills of the two characters (via EW) in case you wanted to get a closer look.

Although many have speculated that Serkis’ character might actually be Darth Plagueis (a Sith Lord mentioned in the prequels), the actor reiterates that Snoke is a completely new addition to the Star Wars world. Some fans have complained of Snoke’s appearance as a massive CG hologram, but as Serkis explains to EW, the CG was quite necessary to achieve his “idiosyncratic bone structure.”

The character is quite vulnerable — which seems to confirm what many have assumed; he’s not nearly as massive or imposing as that hologram would suggest:

Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful. Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose.

We also recently learned that director J.J. Abrams was toying with the idea of making Snoke a woman, which would further shoot down any possibility that Snoke is actually Darth Plagueis. Sorry, fan theorists.
