Even as Star Wars Rebels won’t directly recreate the events of Rogue One from General Syndulla’s perspective, the final season will veer close enough that the two share similar imagery. In fact, the fourth and final Rebels year will even adjust some of its overall designs and color scheme to get closer in line with the Rebel Alliance on Yavin.

Speaking with IGN, Star Wars Rebels supervising producer Dave Filoni previewed Season 4 transitioning the Ghost crew’s rebel cell on Atollon to the familiar Yavin IV. In particular, Filoni noted that we’d start to see rebel designs and colors fall more in line with the Rogue One and A New Hope era, especially with all the turnover in the fleet:

The look of the background rebels really shifts to being more of the kind of drab military colors that you see in Rogue One. The Phoenix Group of rebel soldiers are kind of petering out. They were more brightly-colored – kind of in blues, and oranges and yellows – and well, they all got wiped out for the most part. So they’re redistributed into Mon Mothma’s group on Yavin and Dodonna’s group. You see a restructuring of certain cells as certain cells get destroyed, and that’s true of the ships as well. So there’s lots of little neat detail-level things that happen when our characters are heading into Season 4, and absorbed into the kind of pre-Rogue One era.

As we saw in the trailer, Season 4’s trip to Yavin will also allow X-Wings to make their animated debut, which Filoni still likens to the famous P-51 scene from Empire of the Sun. And regardless of how the final episodes sidestep (or fall short of) Rogue One, we at least know of one character who made it as far as Return of the Jedi.
