You may not be aware, but there’s a pretty big audience for “unboxing” videos on YouTube — these are videos in which fans open up boxes of toys, collector’s items and gaming systems and examine the finer points and details, as if they have opened the Ark of the Covenant and are beholding the wondrous secrets inside. In keeping with this weirdly popular trend, Lucasfilm has decided to officially unveil Star Wars: The Force Awakens products via a live unboxing event.

Lucasfilm announced the event today, which marks the first global, live unboxing event — and probably won’t be the last, now that they’re setting a precedent. The event will be hosted on the Star Wars YouTube channel, and will take place over the course of 18 hours, beginning in Sydney, Australia at 7:45 a.m. local time on September 2, and continuing through major cities in Japan, Korea, France, Germany, and North and South America. The event will conclude at Lucasfilm in San Francisco at 8:00 a.m, September 3.

Naturally, the event will end at midnight local time at all locations, leading to the grand opening of Force Friday, where retailers like Toys-R-Us and select Disney stores are opening their doors overnight to allow fans to buy the first products from the upcoming film.

The products presented during this insane event include toys, collectibles, apparel, books and more. StarWars.com has more details.
