Supergirl may have flown in a Superman for Season 2, but will still lose its next-most super-star in the transition to Vancouver. As expected, Calista Flockhart will have a reduced role as Cat Grant, appearing only in a guest star capacity.

The CW and Warner Bros. confirm that while Flockhart has finalized her return for Season 2, Cat Grant won’t appear among the cast in a series regular capacity, instead as a recurring guest star. Season 2's cost-cutting move to Vancouver had made it somewhat unlikely Flockhart would relocate, given her career status and full-time Los Angeles residence with husband Harrison Ford.

As expected, the role of Kara’s CatCo boss will largely be filled by Cougar Town star Ian Gomez, playing DC journalist Snapper Carr. So says executive producer Andrew Kreisberg of the transition:

Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.

Meanwhile, in addition to the introduction of Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer and Lynda Carter as this particular Earth’s POTUS, Supergirl Season 2 will cast several notable roles that include Lex Luthor’s sister Lena, and several others. Still unknown is if Supergirl Season 2 will introduce Superboy, given that mystery Season 2 cliffhanger, or how the Maiden of Might ends up in that epic four-way superhero crossover.

Supergirl has plenty other questions to answer on the road to Season 2's October 10 premiere, but can the show feel the same with less Cat Grant?
