‘Supernatural’ Moves to Wednesday, Out of Friday Night Death Slot

Supernatural Season 8
The CW

Well, that’s a new one.  Though in recent years a number of series have defied both the odds and the title, typically a show’s moving to the “Friday Night Death Slot” meant it was ripe for the chopping block.  ‘Supernatural‘ may just have made a deal with Crowley the devil to fight its way out of the spot after two years, but what poor soul has taken its place?

The CW announces its fall schedule (which debuts in October rather than September) today, and on it are some admittedly unexpected changes.  Most importantly, veteran sci-fi drama ‘Supernatural’ seems to have clawed its way out of the Friday night slot it’s held steady in for two years, landing back on a prime Wednesday spot.  The series will be paired with similarly geek-friendly new offering ‘Arrow,’ an original take on the DC character Green Arrow, starring Stephen Arnell.

Taking its Friday slot will be the latest season of ‘America’s Next Top Model,’ interestingly paired alongside the critically acclaimed but ratings challenged ‘Nikita.’  Elsewhere, ‘Hart of Dixie’ will move to Tuesdays along with ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’ (formerly ‘First Cut’), while freshman Kristin Kreuk drama ‘Beauty and the Beast’ will land in the post ‘Vampire Diaries‘ Thursday at 9 slot.

‘Gossip Girl’s final 11-episode season will conclude its run in the usual Monday time slot, to be replaced with ‘Sex and the City’ prequel ‘The Carrie Diaries‘  in midseason.  So…yay.

What say you?  Will ‘Supernatural’ get a ratings bump by moving out of Friday nights?  Which of The CW’s new offerings are you most interested in seeing?  Send some ‘Supernatural’ love in the comments below!
