The Army of the ‘12 Monkeys’ will be born anew on Syfy in a matter of weeks, and whether or not you count yourself a fan of the movie-TV reboot trend, we’re hard-pressed to argue with promising early results. Check out Syfy’s new take on the Terry Gilliam-Bruce Willis classic with the first nine minutes of the new ‘12 Monkeys’ TV series!

Courtesy of Yahoo, the first nine minutes of Syfy’s new ‘12 Monkeys’ TV series have made their way online, without lacking for any future dystopia, coughing and time travel shenanigans. The new series premiering on January 16 seems to lack somewhat in the whimsy surrealism (and oh, that score) of the original, but seems intriguing enough to merit at least a pilot watch.

Syfy’s adaptation of the 1995 film (itself coined from French director Chris Marker’s 1962 science-fiction short ‘La Jetée’) stars ‘Nikita’ vet Aaron Stanford in the role originally played by Bruce Willis, and is described thusly:

Inspired by the classic blockbuster film, which commemorates its 20th anniversary next year, 12 Monkeys explores the provocative story of a time traveler from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race.

12 Monkeys stars Aaron Stanford (as time-traveler Cole), Amanda Schull (Dr. Cassandra Railly), Kirk Acevedo (Ramse), Barbara Sukowa (Jones) and Noah Bean (Aaron Marker). Additional key recurring roles include Tom Noonan (Damages, Hell On Wheels) as a mysterious villain and Emily Hampshire (Rookie Blue) as mental patient Jennifer Goines.
