Netflix recently announced plans to double their output of scripted series from 16 to 31 over the next year, but might somewhere in there be the oft-discussed fifth season of Arrested Development? Ron Howard says scripts are being written, so let’s brazenly jump to conclusions!

You’ve likely heard the term “Peak TV” floating around of late, expressing the exhaustive amount of must-see series floating around on every platform these days, and Netflix in particular. They’re certainly not going to make it any easier for you either, as Netflix plans 31 original series premieres in 2016, up from this year’s 16.

The future of Arrested Development’s Netflix tenure remains in question after a number of conflicting reports, though series lead Jason Bateman has an idea as to why the first Netflix revival proved so notably “underwhelming.” Could a change in promotion from Arrested Development “Season 5” better sell the inevitable return?

The other day saw Arrested Development producer Brian Grazer insisting once again that Season 5 had begun ramping up Netflix production, but the streaming service brass have a slightly different message. Arrested Development Season 5 remains in the cards, though extensive deal-making may hold up the Bluths for the time being.

We may yet have official development however, as Grazer says creator Mitch Hurwitz has begun staffing writers, which itself will determine the episode order of a fifth Netflix season.

These days, the only voice trumpeting Arrested Development Season 5’s Netflix future is that of executive producer Brian Grazer, last heard promising an impressive 17 episodes. Now, Grazer promises that the Bluths will band together as early as 2016, premiering Season 5 on Netflix sometime midyear.

Series creator Mitch Hurwitz himself has taken to re-editing the fourth season into chronological order, but will the revamped 'Arrested Development' season 4 hit Netflix, or arrive with the DVD?
