Perhaps the most frightening character in Stephen King's 'Carrie' is not Carrie herself, but her psychotic, religious fanatic mother. Margaret White was played to perfection in the 1976 movie version by Piper Laurie (who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance), and now another top-notch actress may take a crack at the role.
Director Kimberly Peirce is so thrilled to be remaking 'Carrie,' and so excited that she's landed Chloe Grace Moretz for the title role, that she's gone ahead and made her own poster for the movie before shooting a foot of film.
'Carrie,' based on the novel by Stephen King, was adapted by Brian DePalma in 1976 and remade for TV in 2002, starring Angela Bettis. It was also a Broadway musical. Twice. And it's going to be a horror movie again. Now it looks like MGM has found their lead for that 'Carrie' remake.
A remake (or "re-adaptation" if you want to get into semantics) of Brain DePalma's 'Carrie' was inevitable. What wasn't inevitable was a director as interesting as Kimberly Pierce being attached. she's narrowed her list of potential telekinetic teenagers down to two candidates.
