Our dreams of a live-action Addams Family movie starring Oscar Isaac as Gomez may not come true any time soon, but until then we have the next best thing: A new animated movie featuring Isaac as the voice of the spooky-sexy patriarch of the famously creepy (and kooky!) family. In addition to revealing the first photo from The Addams Family, MGM has added a few more actors to their scary-talented roster, including Charlize Theron as Morticia.
The movie stars CK as a dad who rekindles a friendship with his teenaged daughter only for her to enter into a relationship with a movie director three times her age.
When the Cannes Film Festival descends on the French Rivieira, movie billboards and banners crop up all around the Croisette area to catch the attention of industry big shots in town. One such poster advertised a little film called Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs, a new animated project out of Korea in which Chloe Grace Moretz voices the apple-eater of note Snow White. But the passersby at the festival were none too pleased with the advertisement, see if you can guess why: it displays two Snow Whites, one thin and tall, the other shorter and a bit plumper. The tagline? “What if Snow White was no longer beautiful and the 7 Dwarfs not so short?”
Despite how much of a refreshing surprise the first ‘Neighbors’ was, I’ll admit I wasn’t particularly looking forward to the sequel, which looked dispensable and derivative. The poster and trailer for ‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising’ made it clear that Nick Stoller’s sequel to the 2014 Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne comedy was simply replicating the original premise and gender-swapping it to raise the stakes. It seemed like the expected set-up for a movie to stereotype and villainize young women, ridicule and dumb them down for laughs, and subject them to dick jokes. But it turns out ‘Neighbors 2' is a more pleasant surprise than the first movie. Not only is it one of the best and funniest comedy sequels, but the most feminist, self-aware and gay-inclusive mainstream comedy of the year, if not ever.
Besides being hilarious, Neighbors never struck me as the kind of movie that needed a sequel. Frat moves in next store to family, they fight, they resolve, fin. But, Neighbors made so much money, there was no chance there wasn’t going to be a sequel, and now here we are...
