Over the weekend we learned that Wes Anderson is returning to the stop-motion animation format for his next film, which will take place in the world of dogs, thus sort of making up for how many dogs Anderson has killed in his films (including his previous stop-motion film, Fantastic Mr. Fox). And it looks like Anderson is already lining up the voice cast, which includes a few regulars along with one Anderson-newcomer.

More than any before it, Hannibal Season 3 leaned on the written word of franchise author Thomas Harris, particularly Red Dragon, occasionally adapting entire exchanges and scenes to fit the renewed context of Bryan Fuller’s twisted love story. One scene in particular between Hannibal and Will splashes right off the page in all three filmed adaptations, captured in a new mashup of Hannibal, Red Dragon and Manhunter.

In Alejandro González Iñárritu’s ‘Birdman’ (which will close the New York Film Festival this weekend and, I'll add, is my favorite movie of the year), Michael Keaton plays Riggan Thomson, a veteran actor whose biggest claim to fame is that he used to be in a series of superhero movies. Now, Riggan is attempting to make his comeback by staging a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story. It’s been lost on no one that Michael Keaton also used to be in a series of superhero movies and hasn’t had the most prolific output over the last 15 years – and is, now, making a comeback (of sorts) with ‘Birdman.’ For his part, Michael Keaton is distancing himself from this comparison, telling New York Magazine, “I related less to him than almost every other character I’ve played, in terms of the desperation.”

Fox Searchlight released the first 'Birdman' trailer, featuring Michael Keaton as a washed-up actor known mainly for portraying a superhero, and it is one helluva of a preview. Evocative and dark, funny and strange, the footage has done what all trailers set out to do: it took something we didn't care about and made us desperate to see it.
