We are about to enter a weird new world. For many of us, this will be as simple as flipping over to ABC tonight at 8:00, listening in for some snappy banter and thrilling heroics, ultimately leaving it lay for another week while Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ gears up for its next chapter. For others (myself included), ABC’s new series represents a first step into a much larger universe, wherein the rope has been pulled back on a cinematic enterprise previously reserved for our film friends to debate, at least until the latest Marvel venture hits theaters and restarts a slow boil toward the next feature all over again.
Though Joss Whedon is busy working on the script for 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' and has admittedly been conceptualizing his sequel for some time, he still answered the call when 'Thor: The Dark World' director Alan Taylor was in trouble. According to Taylor, Whedon came in to save some major issues he was having with the film.
Superhero movie casting is often controversial, inspiring much wailing and gnashing of teeth from fanboys, but you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks that James Spader playing Ultron in 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' is a bad idea. The three-time Emmy award-winning star of 'Boston Legal' and 'The Practice' feels like the right fit for Marvel. He's also the exact kind of actor that writer/director Joss Whedon wanted in his movie.
Exactly two weeks from today will bring the long-awaited Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' premiere, but you won't have to wait so long for new footage to come pouring out of ABC's new Marvel Universe TV series. Five brand-new clips from the pilot have hit the web, offering introductions to the new 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' team we'll soon see policing the 'Avengers' universe on a weekly basis!
We're just two weeks away from the big premiere of Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' on ABC, and the network is still keeping details of the Joss Whedon-produced drama close to the chest. Before the big reveal, get a new look at the details of the pilot episode, and a behind-the-scenes feature preview with the entire cast of the brand-new 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!'
Sigh, is it September 24 yet? Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' has debuted countless new promos and featurettes re-hashing much of the same pilot footage, occasionally splicing in a bit beyond, but the newest full-length trailer might be the most exciting yet! Prepare to stand on the line between our world, and a much weirder one alongside Marvel's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'!
So much for those rumors that Paul Bettany (as Jarvis) would be playing Ultron... Marvel announced today that Joss Whedon has cast the maniacal, villainous robot in 'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' but instead of Bettany (who has voiced Jarvis in all three 'Iron Man' films and 'The Avengers'), we'll instead get...James Spader?
Every major film goes through an extensive development process where it is continuously rewritten and rebuilt until it everyone feels it is ready to go before the cameras. This means that many of your favorite movies were, at one point, completely different than the finished product. This definitely applies to 'The Avengers,' but we're only just now starting to understand the extreme evolution Joss Whedon's film took on its way to the big screen.
New animatics from early in the film's development have popped up online and they give us a look at a completely different version of the film, including glimpses of the Wasp, a character who was completely cut from the movie.
'Avengers' director and current Marvel Studios creative head muckity-muck Joss Whedon has a knack for killing off beloved characters. You need to look to further than 'Buffy,' Firefly,' 'Angel' and, of course, 'The Avengers' for evidence. But, as he prepares to shoot 'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' in a few months, will Whedon take things up a notch and, gulp, kill one of the Avengers?
