In a move that surprised no one (or, let us rephrase, should have surprised no one), Warner Bros. formally announced that 'Man of Steel' director Zack Snyder will be helming the long-awaited 'Justice League' movie after he's finished with 'Batman vs. Superman.' With his Superman sequel set for release on May 6, 2016, the premiere date for this DC superhero team-up is projected for around 2018, and the studio has more it wants to accomplish before then.

It seems that the folks over at Warner Bros. are quite pleased with Zack Snyder's work because the studio has just officially signed the 'Man of Steel' and 'Batman vs. Superman' director to direct the upcoming 'Justice League' film, as well. That's going to keep him -- and presumably Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck -- pretty busy for a while.

Justice League's Dry Run: What 'Batman vs. Superman' Can Learn From the Animated 'Justice League: War'

Warner Bros. has been trying to bring the Justice League to the silver screen for some time, if only to compete against Marvel's 'The Avengers' franchise. Following Christopher Nolan's now-famous trilogy of Batman films, Zack Snyder stepped up to the plate and served up a rebooted take on the 'Man of Steel'. After that film's success, Snyder agreed to direct the follow-up, a still untitled 'Batman vs. Superman' movie, which will feature three of the most famous DC heroes of all time -- Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) -- and will mark a major step into making 'Justice League' a reality.
But before that happens, Warner Bros. Animation recently released the latest the animated direct-to-DVD 'Justice League: War,' which unites the DC superhero team for an epic battle to save Earth from destruction, and may also serve as a dry run, for a live-action 'Justice League' movie.

Solo Wonder Woman Movie In the Works as Part of Gal Gadot's Three-Picture Deal

It's not out of the norm to see someone like Gal Gadot, who was recently cast in the role of Wonder Woman for Warner Bros.' 'Batman vs. Superman' movie, to sign on for multiple films. In fact, it's practically expected -- just look at Marvel's template for contracting Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and the like. With Gadot specifically, however, not only was a three-picture deal revealed but also the development of the long-awaited standalone Wonder Woman movie!

'Arrow' Star Stephen Amell Confirms Talks of a 'Justice League' Appearance [UPDATE]

With 'Man of Steel 2'/'Batman vs. Superman'/'Justice League 1.0' delayed until 2016, we have an additional 12 months to sort through the rumor mill and try to piece together what the heck is going on in this increasingly bizarre production. The latest tidbit should prove interesting to hardcore DC superhero fans and possibly a little baffling to the comic book laymen. It seems that the 'Arrow' TV show may take place in the same universe as 'Man of Steel' since series star Stephen Amell says he's discussed the future 'Justice League' movie with Warner Bros.

'Justice League' Could Be Coming in 2016 Co-Starring The Rock

'Batman Vs. Superman' (or as it's officially known, 'The Untitled Zack Snyder Super Hero Film'), is already crowded with superheroes, which makes it feel like Warner Brothers was trying to make the 'Man of Steel' sequel into a 'Justice League' movie. The latest rumor suggests that 'Batman Vs. Superman' won't be a 'Justice League' movie, but will lead directly into one that will co-star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

We still don't have much of a read on 'Batman Vs. Superman' (or whatever they call it, it's currently listed as 'The Untitled Zack Snyder Super Hero Film') other than it seems to be a super-sized warm up for 'Justice League.' And with Jason Momoa is in talks to join the cast for an unknown role, perhaps it's actually the 'Justice League' movie after all.

Read the Script For the Planned 'Justice League' Movie!

If you're one of the people who think Batfleck is a bad thing (for the record, we disagree), just remember to tell yourself, it could've been worse. Back in 2007, pre-production began on a 'Justice League' movie that would've cast D.J. Cotrona as Superman, rapper Common as Green Lantern and Armie Hammer as Batman, with Christopher Nolan's 'Dark Knight' trilogy never happening.
The film never happened, for various reasons, but now if you're curious what a 'Justice League' movie could've looked like, you can read the script for the movie right now. (Warning: you'll have a newfound appreciation of 'Avengers,' the 'Dark Knight' and 'Man of Steel' after reading this.)

Warner Bros. CEO Admits They "Need" To Make a 'Wonder Woman' Movie

Despite many attempts, Warner Bros. has yet to get a 'Wonder Woman' movie made. Marvel has made a movie featuring a talking raccoon with a machine gun before Warner Bros. has been able to figure out how to get 'Wonder Woman' - their third most well-known superhero property - made. It's something that hasn't been lost of comic fans and now Warner Bros. is admitting publicly the lack of a 'Wonder Woman' movie has been a "missed opportunity" and that they "need" to adapt 'Wonder Woman' as soon as possible.

While Warner Bros. can't seem to get a 'Wonder Woman' movie off the ground (despite a script once written by current Marvel godfather Joss Whedon, himself), some fans have taken matters into their own hands. Sam Balcomb spent the majority of 2013 creating this 'Wonder Woman' fan trailer, hoping to show Hollywood that it can, and should, be done.
