The very last line of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters is “That isn’t terrible at all,” dialogue that can only be interpreted as a final nod to a fanbase that has worked itself into a lather fretting about this reboot’s tone, special effects, and particularly its female-centric cast. It feels sort of like when the doctor gives you a pep talk after a shot you’ve been dreading: That wasn’t so bad now, was it?

The cast of Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters are set to appear on The Graham Norton Show on June 23, but a couple of clips from their delightful episode have popped up online, including one in which Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy — at Feig’s urging — perform their “folk lady” version of the classic theme song. As an added bonus, their sharply-dressed director gets slimed, straight-up Nickelodeon style.

Yes, yes, our old pal Stay Puft the giant marshmallow man is back in these new TV spots for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters, but the real delight here is watching Melissa McCarthy fire her proton pack at the crotch of a huge, sinister version of the iconic logo. “How do you like that?!” she shouts, and I think the only response is, "Very much, please continue."

Following their delightful appearance with the original Ghostbusters cast on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the ladies of Paul Feig’s reboot — along with their dopey receptionist — have assembled in a brand new poster. And if that’s not enough for you, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy each have their very own featurette, offering a proper intro to their respective characters along with a little dose of new footage.

There has been a lot of skepticism about the new Ghostbusters. Would Paul Feig and his new cast pull it off? Would angry fanboys lose their minds before the movie came out? There was a lot of anxiety. But it’s hard to ignore an endorement like the one the new Ghostbusters got on Jimmy Kimmel Live! from the original Ghostbusters.

It’s been a little quiet on the Ghostbusters front in the last few weeks, but Sony has unveiled some colorful new banners featuring three of the characters from Paul Feig’s upcoming film. Melissa McCarthy is strangely absent, but Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Kristen Wiig each get their very own promo image, blasting away with their cool new proton packs.

Alexander Payne has traded muses, with his one-time Election star Reese Witherspoon stepping out of his developing project titled Downsizing to go pursue work elsewhere. (There’s no bad blood between the former collaborators, according to Deadline, the break was purely a matter of scheduling complications.) For her replacement, Payne went in a bit of a different direction. Though she does not share Witherspoon’s good-ol’-southern-gal charm or the combination of slight-statured cuteness and raw determination that made Election such a treat, SNL-alum-turned-movie-star Kristen Wiig will make for a perfect addition to the Payneverse. Payne’s last film, the tone-perfect small-town satire Nebraska, tapped Will Forte — another SNL vet — for a rare dramatic role and reaped massive dividends. Hopefully, he’ll be able to pull off the same feat with Wiig.

You just can't have Ghostbusters without proton packs. It's so bright you might need shades just to look at the photo.
