We’ve been on the edge of our seats waiting for another look at Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time since those photos of Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling in costume dropped earlier this week. You can’t just give us rhinestone-eyebrowed, glittery lip-glossed Oprah and expect us to not ask for more. Luckily the film’s first official trailer arrived today during Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim.
Any list of the best movie remakes of all-time has to include Steven Soderbergh’s Ocean’s Eleven, a classy, canny update of the Rat Pack heist flick that originally starred Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., and Angie Dickinson. Soderbergh’s Ocean’s was an even more star-studded affair featuring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, and Julia Roberts. The critically acclaimed and commercially successful comedy ultimately spawned two sequels; together, the three Soderbergh Ocean’s made more than $1.1 billion worldwide, a number so large it would even impress Sinatra and Clooney’s Danny Ocean.
Mindy Kaling is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, after graduating from The Office to her very own show, lending her voice talents to Wreck-It Ralph and Inside Out, and set to have a starring role in Ava DuVernay’s upcoming A Wrinkle in Time adaptation. Now, it looks like she and Paul Feig are in serious talks to join forces for a comedy set in the world of late-night broadcast television.
A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L’Engle’s beautiful and strange book about a young girl named Meg Murry who journeys through space and time to fins her scientist father, is being adapted into a film by Ava DuVernay. Not much is known about the cast at this point, but today two familiar faces have joined the project.
We’ve heard rumblings for a while about Gary Ross’ all-female ‘Oceans 11' reboot. In addition to Sandra Bullock leading the film, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling and Helena Bonham Carter have all been rumored. Now three more spots have reportedly been filled in what is some of the weirdest casting news in a while.
Gary Ross’ female-fronted Ocean’s Eleven sorta-sequel-spinoff-whatever has started picking up steam, and in addition to confirming Cate Blanchett’s casting, the latest update adds two more talented names to the ensemble: Mindy Kaling and Helena Bonham Carter. The trio join Sandra Bullock in the upcoming project, which is being produced by original Ocean’s trilogy director Steven Soderbergh.
NBC’s The Office borrowed plenty from its British predecessor did you know the writers revamped the series in Season 2 to make it more optimistic? Or that everyone from Paul Giamatti to Patton Oswalt had a shot at Dunder Mifflin? Grab a beet and stock up on paper, as the 35th episode of ‘You Think You Know TV?’ mugs for the camera with some collated facts from The Office.
Unlike some series, FOX’s The Mindy Project scarcely faced any danger after its initial cancellation, quickly landing on Hulu with a 26-episode order. FOX may yet live to regret their decision however, as the revered Joseph Gordon-Levitt will kick off The Mindy Project’s Hulu tenure with a guest appearance in the Season 4 premiere.
It’s been at least five years since the last great Pixar film (or more, depending on your feelings about Toy Story 3). In the interim, they produced a series of sequels — some quite entertaining, but few as transcendently beautiful as the original concepts that turned the studio into the most dependable brand in all of Hollywood. Their latest effort, Inside Out, isn’t just a return to form; it surpasses almost all of their previous classics. It is, from start to finish, one of the best films Pixar has ever made.
