'The Voices' Review

There's nothing funny about schizophrenia. 'The Voices' understands this, and shows the horror of the disease. And then has you cracking up anyway. It's this diabolical blend of shock and candy-colored kitsch without mockery that makes this first English-language film from Marjane Satrapi ('Persepolis,' 'Chicken with Plums') so unique and, to be honest, something that will turn most people off.

Ever since Ryan Reynolds brought Deadpool to life in the comic book character's first live-action screen appearance for the dreaded 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine,' fans have been pining for "the merc with a mouth" to get his own solo movie. Unfortunately, this has been one of those films trapped in development hell, but director Tim Miller "will never give up." In fact, both him and Reynolds seem pretty optimistic that it will get made ... eventually.

Remember that Ryan Reynolds 'Deadpool' movie? We haven't heard anything about it in over a year, but according to the actor, it's still happening. Sort of. Maybe? New 'R.I.P.D.' Banners Make it Pretty Clear That This is 'Men in Black' With Ghosts

by Jacob Hall June 6, 2013 @ 10:00 AM
If you're going to borrow a formula, you might as well borrow the formula for one of the more successful franchises in recent memory. People have been jokingly calling 'R.I.P.D.' "'Men in Black' with ghosts" for some time now, and for darn good reason: it does look like 'Men in Black' with ghosts. Not that there's anything wrong with that. If you want us to see a movie where the great Jeff Bridges plays an undead cowboy hunting down stray spirits, all you have to do is tell us when to get in line. Anyway, two new banners for the film have arrived, and guess what? They too make 'R.I.P.D.' look like 'Men in Black' with ghosts.

Yesterday we caught one of our first looks at tonight's penultimate 'Arrow' installment "Darkness On the Edge of Town," which featured the mysterious "Dark Archer" getting all manner of violent in pursuit of his goals. Now, the latest preview offers up fan service of a different kind putting Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) awfully close, but who will win the day? And what's this we've heard about a potential Green Lantern appearance, hmm?

New 'R.I.P.D.' Poster Still Makes It Look Like a Ghost-Heavy 'MIB'

by Eric Walkuski May 7, 2013 @ 10:04 AM
A few weeks ago, the first trailer for 'R.I.P.D.' exploded on the 'net, prompting many to accuse the film of looking like a 'Men in Black' ripoff for substituting aliens with evil spirits. Now a new poster for the Jeff Bridges-Ryan Reynolds horror adventure has appeared, and... well, we're still thinking it looks a lot like 'Men in Black.'

'R.I.P.D.' Trailer: 'Men in Black' Meets the Afterlife

This 'R.I.P.D.' trailer certainly seems to indicate that the supernatural buddy cop film is a lot like 'Men in Black' with a cranky Jeff Bridges standing in for a cranky Tommy Lee Jones and a wise-ass Ryan Reynolds filling in for a wise-ass Will Smith. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to you. Take a look at this new 'R.I.P.D.' trailer for yourself to decide.
