Though many people probably want a 'Green Lantern 2' movie come to fruition, it's been widely presumed it at least wouldn't happen for a while. Ryan Reynolds, the star of the first film, is signed on to star in a reboot of 'Highlander;' not to mention the fact that 'Deadpool,' which is probably more of a priority than another 'Green Lantern,' is stuck on hold for the moment.
Still, there has been hopeful rumors about about a 'Green Lantern 2' script by Marc Guggenheim floating around, but is there any truth to them? Now that a 'Justice League' movie is coming at us in the next few years, will we see another Green Lantern-focused film?
Universal has seen plenty of misfires and almost-hits this year, between 'Battleship' and 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' they didn't have a great summer (though 'Ted' managed to save them a little), while fall picture '47 Ronin' was bumped into 2013. But studios are all about franchises these days, and one of the few films that worked for them in 2012 was 'Safe House.' Big surprise, they want a sequel.
Our favorite Green Lantern Ryan Reynolds has just finished work on 'R.I.P.D.' with co-star Jeff Bridges and will be playing our new Highlander Conner MacLeod, but he's already looking for more gigs. We've just learned that he's set to star as the lead in director Atom Egoyan's thriller 'Queen of the Night.'
Just when you thought the next season of 'Family Guy' couldn't get any weirder after recruiting Johnny Depp to reprise the iconic role of Edward Scissorhands, they go and pull a holy hat trick. After an initial appearance as himself a year ago, and making a cameo in Seth MacFarlane's feature-film debut 'Ted,' Ryan Reynolds will make his third appearance for the animation mogul on 'Family Guy.' But who will he be playing exactly, and when will it air?
We know there can only be one but did it have to be Ryan Reynolds? The erstwhile Green Lantern and Deadpool (and that guy from Blade) has officially signed on to star in Lionsgate's 'Highlander' reboot after a few weeks of negotiation.
Ryan Reynolds has not had an easy time with franchises. He's the kind of handsome, charismatic and blandly likeable actor you'd think would be leading his own action franchise by now but despite a few attempts - his 'Blade' spinoff went nowhere, 'Deadpool' continues to go nowhere and the less said about 'The Green Lantern' the better - has come up empty.
But if at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Enter: 'Highlander.'
