Now that her publicity duties have slowed down for both ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ Oscar nominee Charlize Theron’s free to start prepping for George Miller’s anticipated ‘Mad Max’ sequel, ‘Fury Road.’ First step? Get rid of all that pesky hair on top of her head.
It's difficult to imagine two more different films going head-to-head at the box office. However, by appealing to completely different audiences, 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' and 'Prometheus' both managed to emerge from the weekend as big winners, making this the first weekend in months where two new major releases opened strong.
Universal was on shaky ground when 'Snow White and the Huntsman' hit theaters last Friday. Tracking suggested they could have back-to-back flops with it and 'Battleship.' But with a $55 Million weekend, and the likelihood that they will cross $100 Million domestic by Sunday means that they're stepping up their sequel plans.
‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ made a surprisingly impressive box office debut this past weekend, but the verdict on whether it’s actually a good or bad take on the classic fairy tale is up in the air.
A follow-up is indeed in the works (surely being fast-tracked now that the first is such a success), and given Hollywood’s mindset there is likely some truth to the presumption that ‘Snow White and the Huntsman 2’ would sadly concentrate more on the love triangle and start morphing into another 'Twilight' rip-off.
The box office can be a funny thing. Last weekend, 'Men in Black 3' made $55 million and was considered a disappointment. This weekend, 'Snow White and the Huntsman' pulled in $56 million and it's considered a roaring success. As bizarre as that sounds, it all makes sense when you look at the details.
'Snow White and the Huntsman' is opening tomorrow, and it looks like another in this summer's line of films that were meant to be big blockbusters, but missed the mark. Perhaps audiences will enjoy it more than we did, but if you're on the fence, there's a last minute clip from the film to entice you.
The scenery is gorgeous. Charlize Theron looks great in close-up and her costumes are spectacular. The special effect of turning all those British character actors into dwarfs is impressive. Um. . .did I mention the scenery is gorgeous?
Yeah, I think I've said all the nice things I can think of concerning 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' a would-be epic that is merely lifeless at best and flat-out insipid at worst.
We've seen plenty of trailers at this point for Universal Pictures' 'Snow White and the Huntsman,' but this time around the studio decided it'd be cool if we knew a bit more of what was going on behind the scenes of the production, from the creation of the Mirror Man to what some of the actors had to endure while on set.
Many successful couples say the secret to keeping the fire burning is not spending too much time together so that absence has the chance to make the heart grow fonder. Kristen Stewart, however, apparently didn't get the memo.
She says she'd love to make more movies with her boyfriend and 'Twilight' co-star Robert Pattinson -- maybe even the film adaptation of the steamy bestseller, 'Fifty Shades of Grey.'
