Thanks to the Labor Day weekend, 2012's two biggest blockbusters have hit major box office milestones, cementing them in the record books for the foreseeable future. As if they weren't happy enough, everyone involved with 'The Avengers' and 'The Dark Knight Rises' must be sending champagne baskets to each other right now.

Earlier this month we asked readers to cast their votes on this summer's best movies and TV in a variety of different categories. Here's a little perspective for you on this slow news day: Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight Rises' sold 12 million fewer tickets than Tim Burton's 'Batman,' released in 1989. Are fewer people heading to the theater these days? It's hard to believe more people were excited for Burton's film than Nolan's.
