A Definitive Ranking of Movie Titles Named After Their Main Character

This list is not about quality. In fact, it will be only time you ever see ‘Corky Romano’ ranked above a Steven Soderbergh movie on any list. This list is about knee-jerk reactions to names. If you name your movie after your main character and only your main character, you are immediately assuming the name is compelling enough to command your attention. This is not about whether or not a movie is good; this is entirely about whether or not a simple character name can, by itself, get your butt in the theater.

Another Halloween, another 'Paranormal Activity.' Another 'Paranormal Activity,' another large opening weekend. But all is not well in the state of Denmark (and by Denmark, we mean "the 'Paranormal Activity' franchise"): the fourth film in the series opened to significantly less than the previous entries.

'Alex Cross' is a movie that is almost as insane as its villain -- and its villain is a psychotic master assassin who poses as an mixed martial artist and enters himself in an underground fight club to seduce a woman so he can gain access to her house and torture her to death by cutting off her fingers one at a time. It's not particularly "good" -- but it is kind of interesting, in that way that crazy people often are.

James Patterson’s iconic private investigator Alex Cross is a legend among the author’s rabid fan base. The character transitioned to the big screen once with Morgan Freeman (for two films). He’s about to come back to the big screen with Tyler Perry in the role. Yet we can’t take our eyes off his lunatic adversary in these early promo images for the upcoming thriller ‘Alex Cross.’
