'The Walking Dead' Spinoff: AMC Officially Orders Companion Series Pilot for 2015

It's been a good long while since we'd heard from the front of a potential 'The Walking Dead' spinoff/companion series on AMC, but with the fifth season due in a month's time, it seems the network is solidifying their grip on the zombie apocalypse. AMC has officially ordered a pilot for the forthcoming 'Walking Dead' companion series, set to explore a new corner of the in-show universe, because it apparently...wasn't official enough at first.

'The Walking Dead' won't shamble out its fifth season premiere "No Sanctuary" for another month at least, but even the Comic-Con 2014 trailer didn't mind telling us that Rick and the rest of the "A" car won't be holed up in Terminus forever. To wit, the AMC horror drama has released a plethora of new character portraits for the season, with some surprising season 5 reunions, and more than a few questionable omissions!

A few weeks ago, 'The Walking Dead' fans found themselves faced with the question of Daryl Dixon's sexuality, after vague quotes from series creator Robert Kirkman addressed potential for the crossbow-wielding warrior to be revealed as gay. We had a fairly hammy response to the idea, but now showrunner Scott Gimple has stepped up to deliver his own thoughts on Daryl's ambiguous sexuality, promising a separate gay character to come in season 5.

Fresh 'Walking Dead' has been hard to come by since the season 5 trailer debut at Comic-Con 2014, but the season 4 Blu-Ray (hey, you can win one of those!) continually spills out fresh guts goodies for fans. Two more season 4 deleted scenes have arrived, showing that the road to Terminus, for Rick, Carl, Carol, Tyreese and Michonne may have been more deadly than we got to see.

Well, if the second season renewal of AMC's 'Turn' and the early season 2 order for 'Breaking Bad' spinoff 'Better Call Saul' have taught us anything, it's that the network truly can't afford anymore misfires. To wit, the critically and commercially snoozed-upon 'Halt and Catch Fire' has officially been granted a second season, bringing Lee Pace's computer revolutionary back in 2015.
