Great Odin’s raven! The official Transformers Twitter account just unveiled the latest member of the cast of next summer’s Transformers: The Last Knight. It’s Sir Anthony Hopkins:
HBO’s Westworld adaptation has often found itself the center of a larger narrative around the network’s expensive missteps, following production halts and rumors a premiere might be pushed to 2017. Not so, apparently, as HBO now confirms Westworld will bow in late 2016, along with Sarah Jessica Parker’s new show and others.
As anyone who has watched a fair amount of movies can tell you, it’s a bad idea to mess with Anthony Hopkins. But that’s exactly what Nicholas Hoult does — however unwittingly — in the trailer for Collide, a new thriller that puts the Fury Road star back behind the wheel, this time to save the woman he loves, played by Felicity Jones. That’s perfectly fine, but the real attraction here is Ben Kingsley and whatever the hell he’s wearing.
If the ho-hum release of HBO’s Vinyl put a cap on the premium cable network’s difficulty launching a major hit in recent years, the well may run far deeper than we realized. HBO’s Westworld adaptation in particular may now end up pushed to 2017, reportedly owing to creative clashes with showrunner Jonathan Nolan.
It’s been some time since HBO made any official announcements of its upcoming Westworld remake, and notably odd that the series garnered little mention at the recent TCA press tour. There may be some, or rather more trouble behind the scenes now, as production has temporarily shut down. Will it affect the as-yet-unannounced premiere?
More than any before it, Hannibal Season 3 leaned on the written word of franchise author Thomas Harris, particularly Red Dragon, occasionally adapting entire exchanges and scenes to fit the renewed context of Bryan Fuller’s twisted love story. One scene in particular between Hannibal and Will splashes right off the page in all three filmed adaptations, captured in a new mashup of Hannibal, Red Dragon and Manhunter.
HBO’s upcoming Westworld TV series debuted a few photos and scant teases of footage to date, even amid a bit of cast turnover, but at last, the park is finally open. Okay, not that park. Still, see Jonathan Nolan’s vision of robot uprising and a synthetic future by our first full trailer for HBO’s Westworld!
The Solace trailer is in the unfortunate position of having to sell a movie whose real world backstory seems far more interesting than what’s actually on screen. Still, there’s something weirdly charming about this low-rent preview, which looks like it was dragged kicking and screaming from the ‘90s. And that’s appropriate enough since it was originally a sequel to one of the most acclaimed films of that decade.
We still don’t know much about Westworld, HBO’s upcoming adaptation of Michael Crichton’s 1973 science fiction movie about robots running amuck at a high-tech theme park, but it was originally supposed to premiere later this year. Then it got delayed until 2016. On the bright side, a new batch of images from the series was released, giving us a glimpse at one of the most intriguing new shows on the horizon.
Sir Anthony Hopkins is known best by many for his portrayal of classy sociopath Hannibal Lecter—and it’s that sort of sophisticated, unnerving character that Hopkins has made a staple of his career-diet. So it’s not really surprising to see him playing yet another aristocratic, maybe-a-little-unhinged type in the trailer for ‘Kidnapping Mr. Heineken.’ But why complain? He’s just too damn good at it.
