October is upon us, which means we've got some delightfully scary movies hitting theaters, but it also means we're approaching awards season. So there's some serious contenders getting releases as well, like Ben Affleck's 'Argo' and the Wachowski's 'Cloud Atlas.' Scary or serious this month? Why not both? Treat yourselves!

Actor Ben Affleck has impressed both critics and audiences with his two previous efforts as a director, 'Gone Baby Gone' and the excellent 'The Town.' Now the first TV spot for his new film, 'Argo,' has arrived just as the buzz on the film is starting to get really loud.

No one in Hollywood “bats a thousand,” as they say, but Ben Affleck’s directorial career comes awfully close. His first two efforts – ‘Gone Baby Gone’ and ‘The Town’ – were expertly crafted examples of New England crime noir. Now he’s expanding his scope with the international thriller ‘Argo,’ which just teased its first trailer.

It's hard to know what to make of Warner Brothers fiddling with their schedule right now. But they've just moved 'Argo' - which stars and was directed by Ben Affleck - from its September 14 release date to October 12. Meanwhile 'Gangster Squad,' the Ruben Fleischer-directed gangster films with Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin, got moved off the October date and is now unscheduled.
