Bad Robot

It’s been some time since HBO made any official announcements of its upcoming Westworld remake, and notably odd that the series garnered little mention at the recent TCA press tour. There may be some, or rather more trouble behind the scenes now, as production has temporarily shut down. Will it affect the as-yet-unannounced premiere?

Reports began to surface this evening via social media that a trailer for Bad Robot’s upcoming mystery project is attached to screenings of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The film is titled 10 Cloverfield Lane, and while many suspect it’s a secret Cloverfield sequel, there is some evidence to support that this not quite true, including a statement from J.J. Abrams himself. So what is 10 Cloverfield Lane, exactly?

J.J. Abrams counts himself a fan of many things (Spielberg, Star Wars…uh, Spielberg…), but you may not have been aware that the director is quite fond of Don Coscarelli’s classic 1979 horror film Phantasm. Always one to delight in keeping secrets, the director has one specific secret he’s kept very well — since no one thought to look for it. Abrams and his Bad Robot production banner have discretely overseen a 4K restoration of Phantasm, which premiered last weekend in Austin, Texas.

When Roberto Orci exited the third Star Trek movie, star Simon Pegg stepped up to co-write the screenplay for director Justin Lin, working with veteran TV writer Doug Jung. It seems that Jung’s work on Star Trek Beyond has impressed the folks at Paramount and Bad Robot, as the studios have tapped him to rewrite the screenplay for a new, original sci-fi project titled God Particle.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company has selected one of their next projects: a biopic about Thomas Edison, whose brilliant inventions make it possible for Bad Robot to make a movie about the genius inventor, thus completing the cinematic circle of life. Edison, also very awesomely known as “The Wizard of Menlo Park,” is credited as one of the founding fathers of cinema.

J.J. Abrams may not have been able to keep the lid on his Mystery Box while filming ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ but it looks like he’s up to his old ways again with his latest project: Abrams, along with his company Bad Robot, is producing a new mystery movie about—what else?—aliens, with first-time movie director Chris Alender. And no, it’s not a sequel to ‘Cloverfield.’

Over the summer Showtime committed to a pilot order for ‘Almost Famous’ creator Cameron Crowe’s new concert industry dramedy ‘Roadies,’ alongside Bad Robot and executive producer J.J. Abrams, though we haven’t heard much since. Now, the pilot has reportedly set sights on Luke Wilson and Imogen Poots for two of its leading characters, but who might they play?

We’d been hearing about it for some time, but at last HBO has made Bad Robot’s star-studded ‘Westworld‘ TV series a reality. The pay-cable network has granted a full season order to Jonathan Nolan’s adaptation of the 1973 sci-fi classic, whose cast boasts the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood and more, setting a 2015 premiere with the new ‘Westworld’’s first teaser.

Despite seeming dormant for the better part of a year, HBO's forthcoming J.J. Abrams-produced 'Westworld' adaptation continues to fire up some major star power for its pilot. Not only has 'X-Men' star James Marsden been confirmed for a role, but Ed Harris has landed his first regular TV gig as the major big bad of HBO's 'Westworld.'
