We’re a little over four months from the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will launch a whole new world of films into our lives: the DC Cinematic Universe. Spinning out of the events of 2013’s Man of Steel, it will pit Henry Cavill’s Superman against Ben Affleck’s Batman, and put both characters on the path toward a massive two-part film about DC’s heavy-hitting super-team, the Justice League of America, which will also feature the exploits of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Flash (Ezra Miller), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and more.

DC and Warner Bros. aren’t really following the Marvel model when it comes to their superhero cinematic universe. Instead of establishing each hero with separate solo films leading up to the first Justice League movie, WB is introducing some characters in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while others will make their debut in Justice League. But will WB go back and explore the origins of these superheroes after they’ve been introduced in other films?

Since Batman vs. Superman was first announced, many openly wondered how Batman, a dude with no discernible superpowers, would be able to fight Superman, a dude with ALL the superpowers, without getting completely destroyed rather quickly. Director Zack Snyder knows that’s on your mind and has a very simple answer for how Batman plans to even the playing field: he’s going to cheat.

We’ve already seen one teaser and one full trailer (not to mention the extended version) for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a film that isn’t hitting theaters until next March. But with a reported budget of over $400 million, you should expect to see a lot more of Zack Snyder’s epic superhero film over the coming months. In fact, Snyder says we can expect a new trailer very soon.

As we’ve seen in the trailers for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (and as the title suggests), there’s going to be a whole lot of Batman v Superman as Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne is clearly not-very-okay with Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel and his superpowers. But what is it that sets Bruce off? A new interview with the stars of the film shines some light on this battle between heroes, while Affleck himself has confirmed that he may direct a solo Batman movie.

We’ve known for some time that the upcoming Wonder Woman movie would take place in two time periods: modern day and World War I. But, what if that modern day time period, wasn’t exactly modern day. As it turns out, the Wonder Woman movie will actually serve as a prequel to Batman vs. Superman, taking place before the events of that movie.

This week, Batman co-creator Bob Kane was posthumously given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder in attendance to give a speech about Kane’s ongoing influence in film, television and comics. Snyder also took some time out to discuss his own vision for Batman, portrayed by Ben Affleck in his upcoming film.

It’s a bit strange that we’re still five months away from the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and yet we’ve already seen so, so much from Zack Snyder’s epic superhero showdown. We’re destined to see a whole lot more as the holiday season approaches and we edge ever closer to the actual release date. For now, Warner Bros. has revealed four new photos from the set of the upcoming film, which is reportedly costing them over $400 million.

Watch a ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Trailer, Old-Timey Style

The video title clocks the date of imaginary-release at 1949, but janky capes-and-tights pictures in the style emulated above filled cineplexes through the ‘50s, thrilling audiences with their tales of derring-do. If you’re so inclined, feel free to interpret the rudimentary writing on display in the video, sampled from the crude superhero films of the era, as a comment on Zack Snyder’s capabilities as a stylist of dialogue. If not, simply sit back and enjoy the skill with which bits and pieces of old-timey Batman and Superman flicks have been stitched together to create something new.
