We haven't even hit Memorial Day yet and we're already two alien invasions into Summer Movie Season.
Two weekends ago, 'The Avengers' fended off an all-out assault on Manhattan by the evil Chitauri and this Friday the U.S. Navy contends with a bunch of nasty E.T.s in 'Battleship.' The aliens don't have a name this time, but they come from a place dubbed "Planet G," a heavenly body almost exactly like Earth that's theoretically capable of sustaining life.
Planet G is located in the Hasbro Galaxy, that far off star system where toys and board games (like 'Battleship,' of course) are turned into noisy, violent movies about technologically enhanced critters laying waste to human civilization and the few souls brave enough to try and stop them. At least in the case of 'Battleship' those souls have a bit more personality than the ones in 'Transformers,' even if the film itself ultimately devolves into a Transformer-ish robo-orgy about one group of machines blowing up another group of machines.
'Battleship' hits theaters this Friday and is the first film to hit theaters in the modern trend of kids' board games being adapted into big action epics. Depending on how well the film does, it could also be the last.
Director Peter Berg was doing research on the Navy for 'Battleship' when he spotted a beautiful, young female officer playing football - and holding her own - with the men. She was wearing t-shirt from the punk band The Hoods and Berg starting taking shots with his camera, thinking her look would be perfect for the female character in the film, Raikes.
Later, Berg would track down the officer - Jackie Carrizosa, a Gunner's Mate - via email and formally invite her to work with star Rihanna as a Military Tech, Weapons Officer Expert. Did we mention she's beautiful?
'Battleship' is the upcoming $200 million dollar board game movie by Universal Pictures about an invading alien force that wants to take over our planet or at least find a way to get Rihanna to shut up every time something exciting is about to happen. A brand new clip from the action-filled summer blockbuster gives us a better look at the enemy we're fighting.
We're getting the summer kicked off right with some action packed blockbusters and a new film from visionary director Wes Anderson in May. If you're looking for superheroes, aliens, or just a simple, pleasant comedy, we've got you covered.
Beware, beware, here comes a brand new clip for Peter Berg's new film 'Battleship.' If you need confirmation once again, yes, they have made a sci-fi movie out of a simple board game.
Who's ready for an intergalactic battle off the shores of Hawaii? Or at least morbidly curious as to how they plan to turn a board game into a movie? Universal Pictures thinks you are and they've released their brand new featurette about how the hostile aliens came to land on our planet in 'Battleship.'
In the newest trailer for 'Battleship,' the adaptation of the Hasbro board game of the same name, has arrived. And with it comes our first real look at the alien opposition, which resembles something more akin to a robot, and certainly nothing like a plastic peg.
