You've got to take everything that comes out of Marvel Studios with a grain of salt. By extension, you need to take everything that comes out of Kevin Feige's mouth with a grain of salt, since he's president of Marvel Studios and it's his duty to get you excited about his company's movies. However, let's indulge him for a moment, okay? Especially since he recently spoke about one of the more talked-about subjects of the week: Ben Kingsley's performance as the villainous Mandarin in 'Iron Man 3.'
The 'Iron Man 3' trailer. It's finally here, after a number of trailer teasers. And you get a good look and listen to Ben Kingsley's Mandarin, a taste of Guy Pearce's role in the film, and the sense that this is a film of scale, and that nothing is going to come easy for Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark.
Movie genres often rise and fall based on what's popular at the moment, so it's surprising that we're seeing a number of Biblical picture going before the cameras. Perhaps they're the new superhero movies. Darren Aronofsky is currently shooting 'Noah,' Steven Spielberg has been working on a picture about Moses, and now it looks like Sir Ben Kingsley will stars as Herod in 'Mary Mother of Christ.'
Who is the main villain in 'Iron Man 3'? That is the question, isn't it? For a while, we thought Mandarin, played by Ben Kingsley, would be the main bad guy. Then a report came out saying this Marvel character wouldn't be featured as much in the film as expected, leading us to believe Guy Pearce's Aldrich Killian would be the primary threat. But even that is no speculation as Pearce himself stated that his role is no more than a cameo.
So who will be giving Tony Stark the most trouble? Recently discovered evidence suggest it might be someone (or some people) we already know.
Viggo Mortensen's name isn't mentioned enough in movie news. He's one of the best actors we have in the business today and any role he's attached to is guaranteed to make us buy a movie ticket. And with this new role he's been offered, we'd be more than happy to sink our teeth into watching him play a part in a new vampire tale.
