Apart from its diverse cast, FOX's forthcoming 'Batman'-prequel TV series 'Gotham' has revealed relatively little of its core premise beyond the Gotham police department, Bruce Wayne and early incarnations of his colorful foes. Now, thanks to series star Donal Logue, we have a bit of insight into the unusual time and place we can expect 'Gotham' to evoke, as well as the Batman comics that will end up influencing it.
This past weekend, we were blindsided to learn that FOX's forthcoming Batman prequel TV series, 'Gotham,' cast 'Southland' and 'The O.C.' star Ben McKenzie in the central role of Detective Jim Gordon, but now the new DC drama unveiled an even plumper portion of casting. Meet your new Oswald "The Penguin" Cobblepot, as well as young Bruce Wayne's loyal Alfred, Captain Essen, and Gordon's fiancée Barbara!

Fox's 'Gotham,' the upcoming Batman prequel series, has cast its Commissioner James Gordon, after months of whispers and rumors -- Ben McKenzie, formerly of 'Southland' and 'The O.C.' has been chosen to don the badge and fight crime on the streets of Gotham City in the new series that explores Batman/young Bruce Wayne's origins and the city in which he was raised.
