Big Trouble in Little China

The director is not a fan of Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming ‘Big Trouble in Little China’ remake/sequel.

(But it will still involve large amounts of trouble in Little China.)

It’s been a great week for those of us who are really excited for Thor: Ragnarok: between Thor’s new #look, and Jeff Goldblum’s… everything, this movie might be the most entertaining, visuals-wise, Marvel has ever made. And it also might be among the funniest: it’s described as a kind of buddy road trip comedy with Thor and Bruce Banner/Hulk traveling the Universe and stirring up trouble, and Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo historically have some of the funniest moments in the previous Avengers films (“Another!”/“Puny god.”). Couple that with New Zealand’s achingly hysterical Taika Waititi, and you’ve got a pretty potent combo.

Two of Kurt Russell’s most iconic movie characters are about to crossover, but it won’t be on the big screen. A new comic book will introduce Jack Burton from Big Trouble in Little China to Snake Plissken from Escape From New York for a six-issue crossover event that finds both of Russell’s classic action heroes teaming up for a wild adventure. And the best part? John Carpenter — who directed Russell in both films — has given his official approval.

If ever there was a remake that’s perfect for Dwayne Johnson, Big Trouble in Little China is it. The actor also sometimes known as The Rock has come on board to star in and produce the remake of John Carpenter’s classic action flick, stepping into the role originated by another iconic action star and Johnson’s Furious 7 co-star — Kurt Russell.
