This year, Marvel Studios is celebrating 10 years of the MCU — an impressive length of time, to be sure, but even more impressive given the number of films they’ve released since 2008. (Black Panther is the 18th movie, FYI.) The game-changing studio is celebrating this milestone all year long, starting with a massive class photo (Academy Awards-style) in which they’ve assembled all 79 stars of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s so many familiar faces, in fact, that we had to crop some of them out in the above photo.

First Look at Brie Larson as ‘Captain Marvel’!
Just yesterday, Brie Larson shared a photo of her prepping for the title role in Captain Marvel. With the caption “Learning how to fly,” the pic showed Larson in full Air Force parachute gear, giving fans a little sneak peek at the civilian side of Carol Danvers. Although filming on her solo movie isn’t set to begin until early February, we didn’t have to wait long — like, at all — for our first look at Larson in full costume as Marvel’s first lady.

Just yesterday some set photos landed online that maybe-possibly gave us our first look at something being filmed for Captain Marvel — most likely a post-credits tease attached to one of the upcoming Avengers sequels. As production gears up for a February start, today brings another cool photo from the highly-anticipated Marvel film, this time featuring Brie Larson herself.

Leave it to Marvel to drop some awesome news on this sleepy Thanksgiving eve, and they’re definitely giving us all something to be thankful for: Jude Law has signed on to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in Captain Marvel, which marks Larson’s big — and highly-anticipated — MCU debut. Depending on your particular feelings about such things, you may be disappointed or thrilled to learn that he won’t be playing her love interest.

The next big project Brie Larson has on her schedule is Captain Marvel, the MCU’s first female-led superhero movie and the first one directed (albeit co-directed) by a woman. After making her directorial debut with Unicorn Store, Larson is ready to take on a superhero role — and, eventually, direct one herself.

Brie Larson’s first big solo outing in the MCU is undergoing a little shake-up behind the scenes. Marvel has reportedly hired a new screenwriter for Captain Marvel, the ’90s-set superhero film that will introduce audiences to the eponymous hero. And they could do a lot worse than a scribe whose credits include upcoming projects like the Tomb Raider reboot starring Alicia Vikander, as well as the all-female DC villains team-up Gotham City Sirens.

‘The Glass Castle’ Review: A Melodramatic Memoir With Brie Larson
Destin Daniel Cretton’s Short Term 12 was one of the best movies of 2013, and remains one of the most surprising indie dramas of the past several years. It’s the film that finally put Brie Larson on the film industry’s radar, charting a path towards an eventual Oscar win. One of the greatest strengths of that film is how delicately it unpacks the day-to-day trauma and struggle of neglected teens living at a group home. With that in mind, Cretton’s latest film The Glass Castle sounded especially promising – an adaptation about a dysfunctional family told through the eyes of a young girl. Unfortunately The Glass Castle is nothing like Short Term 12, trading in nuance for glib storytelling while giving Larson little to do.
