In what should come as a surprise to no one, the latest film from the Coen brothers took home a big prize at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. In what may be a little more surprising, a French coming-of-age film about two lesbians took home the grand prize.
Ever since 1999's 'Election,' Alexander Payne's films have been like catnip to the Academy. 2002's 'About Schimdt' got two nominations, 2004's 'Sideways' got five nominations and last year's 'The Descendants' also got five. Payne himself has been nominated five times and has won twice. His next film, 'Nebraska' stars Will Forte and Bruce Dern. Mathematically, this means Forte could be an Oscar contender.
