The next slate of Marvel films will soon be upon us, now that we're about to enter the new year, and the one closest on the horizon is Marvel Studios' 'Captain America 2' (officially titled 'The Winter Soldier). As Empire Magazine drops its latest issue on news stands featuring our patriotic strongman's next standalone mission, new photos from the sequel have hit the web in addition to some new looks at 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'!
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Winter is coming ... for Captain America, anyway. As we enter the year filled with such anticipated titles as 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' 'Godzilla' and 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,' Empire Magazine has debuted its latest cover featuring new images from the next installment in Marvel's buzzing superhero universe -- 'Captain America 2.'
If you've seen the 'Captain America 2' trailer (or the 4-minute preview that ran in theaters with 'Thor: The Dark World'), you've already caught a glimpse of Crossbones, the Marvel villain played in the film by Frank Grillo. He starts off as an ally, but as you can see in the elevator beatdown, he eventually turns on Cap. Now, it looks like this isn't the last we'll see of Crossbones, as Grillo hints that Marvel has even bigger plans in store for the mercenary.
The first trailer will be online tomorrow afternoon (UPDATE: check out a :10 second teaser below), but we've got a couple of new 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' photos from the upcoming Marvel film to hold you over until then. Cap has a brand new suit to go along with his brand new movie, and he's still putting down the bad guys, as evidenced by one particularly awesome new still.
Last night, we had a chance to preview Hasbro's upcoming 2014 toy line including the reveals of action figures for 'Amazing Spider-Man 2,' 'Captain America 2' and 'Transformers 4.' Below, we've got a first look at some of these brand new toys including some pretty interesting new characters.
Though he might not be as well known as Kevin Feige, Louis D'Esposito (Co-President at Marvel Studios) has been one of Marvel's top producers, having worked on all the in-house Marvel films since 'Iron Man.' He's also become the regular director of the 'Marvel One-Shot' series, which have gotten bigger and better with each new entry in the series.
With the Blu-ray release of 'Iron Man 3' comes the latest 'One Shot' 'Agent Carter,' which is easily the best of the series and stars Hayley Atwell's Peggy Carter as a James Bond-esque superspy, though one that isn't taken seriously by her superiors because she's a woman. It's smart and fun, giving Atwell another shot at one of her best roles (a part she's likely to reprise).
D'Esposito came up working as an assistant director for the likes of Paul Verhoven and Elaine May, but with the 'One Shot' films, D'Esposito is not only coming in to his own, but perhaps positioning himself to direct one of Marvel's next superhero movies.
We spoke to him about Marvel spinoffs, the origins of Nick Fury, 'Captain America: Winter Soldier,' 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and more.
