Captain America

Steve Rogers was a 98-pound weakling when he was chosen to take part in Project: Rebirth, an experimental Super Soldier program during World War II. The experiment was a success, and Rogers was transformed into Captain America. After years fighting the Nazis (and Hydra) in World War II, Cap was lost (and presumed dead) saving New York City from a deadly bomb, then discovered and revived years later by the Avengers. On the printed page (where he was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby) and onscreen (where he’s starred in two solo features and two ‘Avengers’ titles), Captain America has been one of the world’s most famous and beloved superheroes for more than 70 years. He’s currently portrayed by Chris Evans.

  • Notable Appearances:

In the tradition of ScreenCrush series like You Think You Know Movies and You Think You Know TV comes a new YouTube series: Top Five! Watch a Marvel Phase One Retrospective
It may seem hard to believe, but Marvel has now completed two phases of films, ending Phase Two with Ant-Man before entering Phase Three next summer with Captain America: Civil War. The new MCU kicked off back in 2008 with Iron Man and ended with the first Avengers in 2012 — which already seems so, so long ago. As we prepare for Avengers: Age of Ultron to hit Blu-ray and DVD, one fan has put together this 10-minute retrospective looking back on the films of Phase One.

Chris Evans Will Stay With Marvel for as Long as They Like
It’s been kind of a big week for Marvel — we haven’t really covered it here, but the company had a bit of a shakeup, as Marvel Studios disengaged from Marvel Entertainment, with Kevin Feige taking the movie end of things over to Disney and gaining more control over the MCU. On the heels of that major news, Chris Evans has revealed that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Clearly things are pretty good over at Marvel right now.

Marvel Gives Cosplayers Their Own Comic Book Covers
Cosplay has moved beyond simple hobby into an outright dedicated art form with professionally-shot photos and carefully constructed, very accurate costumes. It is, in the eyes of some, the ultimate display of devotion to fandom. And after years of cosplayers taking over conventions, Marvel is giving some of the best ones some very cool recognition by putting them front and center on new variant covers of their comic books

‘Captain America: Civil War’ Teams Revealed – Who is Fighting Whom?
Captain America: Civil War will be the cinematic incarnation of those early morning debates you used to have with your friends: which superhero would win in a fight? We’ve known that the main plot of the film would find Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers facing off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and that the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be torn between them, but now we know where those fractures lie. So, who is Team Captain America and who is Team Iron Man?

Adidas Releasing Avengers-themed Retro Basketball Sneakers
Everyone wants a piece of the Avengers pie. When a movie with a global audience this large is at stake, there's no brand deal that doesn't make sense to at least attempt. We've already seen Under Armour, Samsung and Gillette, among others, team up with Marvel and Disney to produce a few Avengers-themed goods. It would seem however, that Adidas, already responsible for Quicksilver's sneakers, isn't content with just running shoes with Avengers designs. According to Chinese sneaker site Dunk, Adidas is planning on revisiting some of its more well-known basketball sneakers from years past, albeit with a comic book twist. Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, and Thor will all get retrofitted onto kicks from the Adidas catalog, though your mileage may vary as to how attractive these shoes really are. Though I guess it doesn't really matter given that comic book-themed footwear for adults is rather limited outside of Journeys.

'Captain America: Civil War' Rumor: How Black Panther Fits In
So far, the lineup for Captain America: Civil War makes the film seem more like Avengers 2.5 than another installment in the Cap franchise — not that that’s a bad thing. The film features Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Falcon and so many more, including Chadwick Boseman, who will make his first big screen appearance as Black Panther. But how exactly does Marvel’s new hero fit into the upcoming battle between Cap and Iron Man? We might know. Kind of.

Everything You Need to Know About ‘Captain America: Civil War’
Captain America: Civil War is in production, and it has the official synopsis and cast list to prove it. The film, which will see Captain America come to blows with Iron Man, already feels like one of the boldest entries on the Marvel horizon. Can it make Mark Millar and Steve McNiven’s infamous series work within confines of the MCU? Can it effectively juggle a cast list that seemingly grows bigger with each passing week? Whether you’re a hardcore fan nitpicking every decision or a casual observer trying to figure out what the hell is going on, don’t worry. We’ve got this. If you only know your Marvel heroes through the movies or never got around to reading 2007’s Civil War series, we’ve put together a primer on everything you need to know. SPOILERS for the comic (but not necessarily the movie!) lie ahead.
