Captain America

Steve Rogers was a 98-pound weakling when he was chosen to take part in Project: Rebirth, an experimental Super Soldier program during World War II. The experiment was a success, and Rogers was transformed into Captain America. After years fighting the Nazis (and Hydra) in World War II, Cap was lost (and presumed dead) saving New York City from a deadly bomb, then discovered and revived years later by the Avengers. On the printed page (where he was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby) and onscreen (where he’s starred in two solo features and two ‘Avengers’ titles), Captain America has been one of the world’s most famous and beloved superheroes for more than 70 years. He’s currently portrayed by Chris Evans.

Captain America: Civil War is in production, and it has the official synopsis and cast list to prove it. The film, which will see Captain America come to blows with Iron Man, already feels like one of the boldest entries on the Marvel horizon. Whether you’re a hardcore fan nitpicking every decision or a casual observer trying to figure out what the hell is going on, don’t worry. We’ve got this. If you only know your Marvel heroes through the movies or never got around to reading 2007’s Civil War series, we’ve put together a primer on everything you need to know. SPOILERS for the comic (but not necessarily the movie!) lie ahead.

The Best (and Worst) Superhero Movie Costumes of All-Time
We’re a little over a week away from the biggest movie of the summer, Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. In less than ten years, Marvel has built a powerful brand in Hollywood thanks to their great casting, sharp writing, and an ability to distill decades of comic books down to fun, accessible adventures. A big part of that translation process is the look of their movies, and particularly the look of their characters. And that’s all about costumes, which is a particular specialty of Marvel’s. Between Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and the rest, they’ve got some sharp-dressed heroes.

Before Captain America: The First Avenger hit theaters and helped kickstart the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel had much different ideas for Cap. Namely, a comedy. Jon Favreau, the man who would eventually direct the first two Iron Man movies. These are just some of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which heads back to WWII with Captain America: The First Avenger!
