Disney and Lucasfilm have looked at over a thousand young actors to try and find the right person to play a young Han Solo in the upcoming spinoff film directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the saviors of bad franchise ideas, achieving the impossible and making believers of even the most skeptical among us — from 21 Jump Street to The LEGO Movie, these guys have turned dumb concepts into great films. For their next trick, the pair are working on an animated Spider-Man movie (no relation to the new live-action reboot) and a young Han Solo prequel for the Star Wars series. The former will now hit theaters just a little later than originally planned, but judging by their previous work, it’ll be worth the wait.

Back in the days of yore, or at least 2014, FOX tapped Lord and Miller to reboot 1981 Stephen J. Cannell classic The Greatest American Hero for a new series, though plans seem to have lost steam, until now. Believe it or not, the reboot will walk on air a second time, as FOX issues a pilot production commitment with a new writer.

In news that absolutely in no way connects to Back to the Future, yet overwhelmingly feels designed to coincide with Back to the Future, Lord and Miller will be getting into the time travel game. The Lego Movie pair have begun development on yet another FOX comedy with In Time, in which presumably, at least someone will head back to a future. At some point. I mean, you have to give us that.

The breakout success of Sarah Koenig podcast Serial spurred many a follow-up rumor, from an American Crime Story season, to continued speculation on the announced Season 2 subject, but as is often the case, the truth is far stranger. Phil Lord and Chris Miller have optioned Serial for a new scripted TV series, with a unique take on the concept.

I imagine my reaction to the news that Disney and Lucasfilm were going to make a movie about “Young Han Solo” — and that said film was going to be directed by the dynamic duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller — was the same as a lot of other movie nerds. It went something like this.

Last night we got a brief update from Chris Miller on 23 Jump Street, with the writer / director revealing that he and partner Phil Lord will produce but not direct the sequel. Lord and Miller are currently busy with a few other major projects, including the young Han Solo Star Wars film and an animated Spider-Man movie for Sony. Although he initially didn’t provide updates on either of those projects, Miller had a few things to say later on following his appearance at The Last Man on Earth TCA panel.

We’ve known for some time now that original Jump Street writing / directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller would be involved with 23 Jump Street, but given their increasingly busy schedules, it seemed less and less likely that they’d find time to direct it. Turns out that’s definitely the case, as the pair will merely be involved as producers on the upcoming sequel.

The inherent secrecy of The Last Man on Earth gave its first season a few ups and downs, though those directions look increasingly literal by the Will Forte-starring, Lord and Miller-produced comedy’s first Season 2 poster. Carol and Phil (and all his sporting good friends) hit the road in our first look at Season 2, but what might it mean for the rest of the cast?
